I get quite a few emails from people wondering where those who are not a size 2 can buy great clothes. Yes, I’m exaggerating a bit, but few boutiques carry plus-size fashions. Tweed in Greenwood is one of the few. Mark your calendars - on May 17th Tweed will host a C enne V trunk show from 11a-6p. The designers for C enne V will be there to show off their hip, fashion forward line. Wine and snacks will be provided.

One of my favorite NYC shopping stops, H&M (think of it as Ikea for clothing: inexpensive but very fashionable), announced in Aug. ‘07 that University Village would become the first location for the retailer. Now The Seattle Times is reporting that we’re get two more (YAY!) - one at Southcenter and another in downtown Seattle. The Southcenter store is part of the mall’s huge expansion project and will be 25,000 square feet. The downtown store is taking over the current Kenneth Cole location and will be just 16,000 square feet. All three stores are slated to open this August. Just in time for back-to-school shopping!

“Reduce, reuse, recycle” has been the mantra of Seattleites for a decade (or so). Beth Nielsen of Vintage Creations has heard the battle cry. Instead of throwing away that luxurious cashmere, she has created a line of recycled cashmere hats, scarves, mitts and tops. Each piece is an original, multi-colored and full of character. The pieces range in price from $38-$160 and can be found online at ekochic.com or the boutiques listed. This purple, gray & black ruffle scarf is $68.

As I was taking my morning stroll around the information superhighway (can I call it that anymore?), I came across a great write-up about Kimberly Baker. Our local girl is getting some much-deserved national attention! According to Citizen Rain, her fabulous accessories have been spotted on the small screen. It seems the cast of Gossip Girls, which airs on the CW, has been sporting her designs this season. Here’s a screen grab that I pulled from Kimberly’s blog . Actress Jessica Szohr is wearing the Oona earrings in sterling silver. These danglies are $65.

Tis the season of the clutch. If you don’t have one, you need one. Local girl Sabrina Love Rodriguez has found her calling by designing exquisite handbags. Her designs are classic, with simple lines and high-quality Italian leather & hardware. When I picked up the white croc clutch (actually I think I picked up the black one) I was impressed with the size, weight and feel of it. It’s not too big or bulky at 12″ long and 6 1/2″ tall. My phone, wallet and lipstick fit perfectly while still keeping the feminine look. Available online or at Rue, it sells for $238.

My holiday calendar is starting to get pretty full. Parties, lunches, gift exchanges, etc. The list goes on and on. Of course I want to look my best for each occasion which means I need several cocktail dresses. As I was driving past the Frock Shop on Phinney Ridge the other day I saw this super sassy red dress hanging on the rack outside. It’s brushed cotton with satin trim and gold topstitching which is perfect for the holidays! It was originally $68 and has been marked down to $48!

As I search through my closet in the mornings trying to decide what to wear, I generally lean toward pants. Not because I like pants, but because it’s too cold for skirts - and the generic tights I own are boring. I am definitely not sock savvy… but that’s all about to change. Violette just got in a shipment of Hansel From Basel sassy legwear. With bright polka dots and stylish knee pads, these socks, tights and thigh-highs are anything but blah and will definitely keep my legs warm! They range in price from $25-$48.

Thursday was day one for the new butter LONDON store in the Starbucks Center and I was invited in to check it out. Ooh la la! The small space is robin egg blue with their signature whimsical crow painted near the back corner, the illuminated back wall holds chic square bottles of lacquer, and you get pampered while sitting at rich black and gold furniture. This is not your old strip mall nail salon! Not only does the place have a great vibe, owners Nonie & Sasha are changing the way you get your nails done. They don’t use water (no more bacteria baths for your toes!), they give you the nail file they just used on you (so someone else’s nail germs don’t end up on you) and their non-toxic lacquer is revolutionary. The entire line of edgy-colored lacquer is “3 Free” - there’s no formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP. I didn’t even know that stuff was in my polish! Gross.
I’ve had many manicures in my day, so I consider myself somewhat of a “manicure-oisseur.” I can honestly say that I had an incredible manicure and I look forward to an incredible, waterless pedicure! Manis are $20, Pedis are $40.

‘Tis the season to start planning those holiday parties. While I love to entertain I don’t love the fact that I have 30 wine glasses that don’t match. I want to throw a stylish holiday cocktail soiree! Not show off my worn out dinnerware. In one of those small world scenarios I ran into Sheena the owner of Totally Tabletops. What a cool concept! She rents out colorful, fun glassware, flatware and dishes. This red goblet screams “RENT ME!” For only $1 per glass it’s extremely affordable. Holiday plates are 75 cents! An added bonus is you can return them dirty.

On the street you wear the latest fashions and sport the newest trends. Now there’s a new boutique in town that will make sure you are just as chic in the gym. So Much Fun - Sporty Chic just opened this past weekend in Wallingford Center. Large picture windows and bubble gum pink walls surround the racks of active wear. From yoga and pilates to walking and biking, they’ve got all the workout bases covered. Sabrina, the owner, is currently looking for a yoga or pilates instructor to come teach some classes and she’s also thinking of starting a weekend bike club - nothing competitive, just a fun group to ride with. Stop by and let her know if you’re interested!
