La Rousse is closing

On the heels of Olivine’s announcement that they’re closing, the popular boutique La Rousse is also closing its brick and mortar shop. The last day will be September 30th which means there’s a giant liquidation sale going on now! Save 50%-90% on merchandise. While the actual store may be closing, the owner says she’s going to maintain her online store and blog. If you’d rather try on the clothes before you buy them, private clients will are invited to her showroom. To become a private client email her at amanda@la-rousse.com.

Olivine is closing

OlivineI’m sad to report that one of the greatest girlie girl shops in Seattle is closing. Olivine on Ballard Ave. has been around for more than 10 years and has quite the following. Not to worry, though, the owner is heading to Fremont (next door to Kimberly Baker’s studio) to open Show Pony which won’t carry the feminine clothing of Olivine. In fact, they’re not carrying clothes, it’s going to be stationary, knick knacks, baby stuff, neat trinkets and more. The plan is to be open by September 1st. It sounds like a great shop! In the meantime, the Olivine annual sale starts this Friday so stop by for some great deals! Replacing Olivine on Ballard Ave. is going to be another boutique. I’ll report more when I know more.

H&M opens July 25th

The countdown is on! The first Seattle-area H&M is opening at 10 a.m. on July 25th at SouthCenter. YIPPEE! If you’re not familiar with the department store, it’s known for its stylish and affordable clothes. Some highlights for this fall are high-waisted skirts beginning at $34.90, tailored coats for $69.90 and bold accessories for $12.90. You seriously can’t beat the prices! Now when you watch the Today Show fashion segment and they show an outfit from H&M, you don’t have to feel left out! Two more H&M’s are scheduled to open later this year – one on Pike Street and one at U Village.

Swarovski crystal hoops

A great pair of earrings can really make an outfit and these Swarovski crystal hoops would do just that. The old-world feel of the antique brass hoops along with the bright crystals will draw attention upward. Handmade my Kristin Friesen of “Sweeter than me Designs” these earrings are completely customizable. These aqua crystals are in a graduated color pattern. Want all red ones? No problem, Kristin can do it. Several shades of pink? Just ask. She has many colors and will make whatever you want. They’re available online for $28.

Strut SeattleComfort and style don’t generally go together, but a new shop on Phinney Ridge is trying to make it work. Strut, which opened on June 1st, is all about making your feet happy while making you look good. While their focus is on women’s shoes, they’ve got some adorable kids shoes and they’re slowly building their men’s selection. They’ve also got some beautiful jewelry to check out.

French-inspired cookbook stand

We love to cook and are always looking through our recipe books to find the perfect dish for dinner. Most nights we just leave the books out on the counter, but this cookbook stand at Feathered Nest Interiors would be great! The distressed turquoise with brown scrolls remind me of a French patisserie. Ooh la la! It’s 13″ wide and 13″ tall and the two balls dangling down hold the pages in place. It sells for $28.

Hollywould high-waisted pants

I love the look of high-waisted pants. Too bad I am short-waisted and can’t get away with them. These 70′s inspired lightweight pants by Hollywould are great for our mild weather. The pique’ wide legs are adorned with gold-toned buttons. The fact that these are machine washable make them even more attractive! I found these at Canopy Blue for $378.

Hitchcock earrings

Sometimes you need big, flashy earrings. Other times you need understated elegance. Right now, that’s what I’m in the market for. These cobalt blue glass earrings on a 4.25 inch silver chain are beautiful. Erica, the owner of Hitchcock, started her own jewelry line nearly a year ago with antique gems and estate finds from her jaunts around the western half of the country. Each piece she makes is a one-of-a-kind. These earrings are $59.

Not So Fast clothing

I always look for t-shirts with a twist for my husband. This Not So Fast shirt at Marqsmen fits that bill. The infantry green is a great color and I love how it fits… Not too tight, not too loose. The one-pocket, two-button henley is $62.
