Candle sleeves to brighten any room

When we bought our house there was a really cute chandelier in the nursery. Unfortunately the previous owners took it with them so I’ve been in search of one ever since. The problem is they all have those ugly white tubes for the lights. kaarsKoker, which is Dutch for “candle sleeve”, has created a beautiful way to cover those tubes. They come in solids, stripes and other patterns – like skull and bones. The cost is $12-$23.

French-inspired cookbook stand

We love to cook and are always looking through our recipe books to find the perfect dish for dinner. Most nights we just leave the books out on the counter, but this cookbook stand at Feathered Nest Interiors would be great! The distressed turquoise with brown scrolls remind me of a French patisserie. Ooh la la! It’s 13″ wide and 13″ tall and the two balls dangling down hold the pages in place. It sells for $28.

The classic bubble lamp

Bubble LampBack in the ’40s George Nelson created the “bubble lamp” which were discontinued at the end of the ’70s. Modernica picked up the line and it’s now back on the market. The classic lamps are simple and distinguishable. They are created with a steel frame and tautly stretched white plastic polymer (that feels like fabric to me). The big bubbles spread the light evenly through a room and will definitely be the topic of conversation at any dinner party. I found this large Saucer Bubble Lamp at Velocity. It sells for $365. It also comes in smaller sizes.

Bright spring vases

Camelion Design vasesEach spring a switch gets flipped and all of a sudden I’m mad about bright colors. Maybe it’s the vibrant flowers in my garden, I’m not really sure. This year I’m decorating a new house. The walls are all pretty pale or neutral that are screaming for personality. I found these great blue vases (that come in a variety of beautiful colors) at Camelion Design. The small one is $9, the large one is $12.50.

Totally Tabletops

Totally Tabletops‘Tis the season to start planning those holiday parties. While I love to entertain I don’t love the fact that I have 30 wine glasses that don’t match. I want to throw a stylish holiday cocktail soiree! Not show off my worn out dinnerware. In one of those small world scenarios I ran into Sheena the owner of Totally Tabletops. What a cool concept! She rents out colorful, fun glassware, flatware and dishes. This red goblet screams “RENT ME!” For only $1 per glass it’s extremely affordable. Holiday plates are 75 cents! An added bonus is you can return them dirty.

Modern teak furniture

Maku chairWe just moved into a new house (well, it’s new to us) and we’re starting to figure out what we need – a lawnmower, a kitchen table and furniture for our rocking chair front porch. I’ve proclaimed myself the Queen of the Porch, so I get to furnish it. I ran across Maku Furnishings awhile back and really liked what they’re all about – creating modern furniture while not hurting the planet. They use sustainable plantation grown teak and are members of 1% for the Planet, meaning they give 1% of their profit to help keep the oceans clean and the air breathable. I found this lounge chair at Velocity Art And Design in Seattle. It sells for $829.

Brilliant flameless candles

Flameless CandleI have found the invention of the year! Candles are on my list of “favorite things,” especially in the winter when the sun goes down so early. My biggest gripe is how ugly they look when they start burning down. Local lady Denise Mayer has invented the perfect flameless candles. How brilliant! Yes, they’re fake, but you would never know it. The outside is made of wax, but instead of lighting them you just flip the switch. The light flickers just like a true candle and brightens the room just the same. Their beautiful designs will last much MUCH longer than a traditional candle. These candles can be found at London Flat for $69.

The one here is decorated with Swarovski crystals and goes for around $300. But you don’t have to shell out that much, it’s a door prize at this week’s trunk show:

Perfect fall glasses

Galactic TumblersThe days are shorter, the weather is dismal and the leaves are falling. How depressing. But there’s no need to have a dark, damp attitude as we feel ourselves being pulled into fall. Bright colors are incredibly important this time of year! These beautiful hand-blown colored milk glass tumblers from Galactic are perfect. Sip your favorite cocktail by the fireplace or use them as votives. Either way the vibrant shades will (well, they should) cheer you up. They are $8.95 each. A set of 4 is $30.

Add some sparkle at London Flat

London Flat LampDo you ever feel like your home is boring? Like your decor is stale and needs some “sparkle” to bring it back to life? I went to London Flat in Bellevue to see if they might have something that could touch-up our house just a bit. Whether your style is shabby chic or modern, this small shop has a lot to choose from. If you’re in the market for a feminine chandelier or something more masculine, make sure to check this place out before you make a purchase. This beautiful Zanzibar table lamp is hand-made and comes in several different colors. It sells for $369. (Honey, this is on my wish list).
