Scrimshaw Bracelet

Scrimshaw braceletWearing your heart on your sleeve is so last season. This year it’s hot to wear your thoughts on your wrist! I found this incredible bangle/conversation starter at Merge. The artist, Jessica Kagan Cushman, learned the craft of scrimshaw from her father and has transformed fossilized wooly mammoth ivory into extremely popular bracelets. Since not everyone can afford the fossilized ivory kind, she also makes them out of resin, which is what Merge carries. The bangles each have great sayings like, “Do you have any idea who I am?” and “You’re not the boss of me.” They sell for $125.

Tarina Tarantino bracelet

Tarantino BraceletMy new favorite accessory is the bracelet. From dainty and petite to large and clunky, I can’t get eough of them. While on the top of Queen Anne the other day, I strolled into Adelita (the owner had emailed me about a make-up sale which I’ll get to later). Flirty summer dresses, sassy lingerie and great jewelry filled the boutique. I immediately honed in on this Tarina Tarantino lucite cube bracelet. It’s crystalized with Swarovski and is extremely sparkly. Each bead is cut to reflect the light beautifully. The beads are strung on a jelly cord and will stretch up to 7″. I bought the medium beaded bracelet for $30, although I think these would look fantastic with 3 or 4 on your arm.

Now about that make-up sale. It seems Adelita has over-ordered their Nouba eyeshadows and lipsticks. Oops! Singles, doubles and quad eyeshadows and the lipstick collection are all on sale 2-for-1. I’ve never used the product, so of course I had to buy some! If you can’t make it into the store, you can also buy online.

Confetti Necklace

confetti necklaceI have a thing for accessories, especially necklaces. Sometimes when I’m bored with my clothes I’ll buy myself something eccentric to wear around my neck, just so I don’t feel so drab. Alisha Louise makes some beautiful jewelry. She’s traveled around the world and has obviously been inspired by many of her trips. She’s an artist who doesn’t stick with just one style. She uses metal, ceramic, beads to create unique pieces. I love this confetti necklace. The 3 chains hang about 17.5″ and the 6 disks come in a variety of colors that you can choose. The confetti necklace is $112.

Matron of Honor necklace

MOH necklaceMy sister, Susan was my Matron of Honor. Shopping for her jewelry was beyond easy. Since I wanted her to wear her aquamarine earrings the only thing I needed to buy was the necklace. Hitchcock was my one-stop-shop for it. Susan likes simple, classy and understated. I knew that with her tan gold was the way to go. They didn’t have exactly what I was looking for so Erica (the owner) had this necklace made. It was perfect: two small gold beads on either side of a larger gold bead. It’s not overwhelming and it doesn’t scream for attention. This cost $79.

Beta Box 200

Beta Box 200For my birthday (in February) my fiance’ got me a new HD video camera. We did tons of research to figure out what we wanted, and we just picked it up from Glazer’s last week and love it! (Stay tuned for video coming to Seattle Chic.) Now we need a carrying case. I’m of the clumsy clan so the traditional soft cases aren’t going to work. Plus, they remind me of tourists who wear socks pulled up their calves. A fellow bride sent me the coolest build-your-own Beta Box (she works for the company who creates them). They’re made of compression-molded EVA foam — think of the stuff in your tennis shoes. They’re durable, and best of all they’re 100% customizable inside and out! I’m not sure about my colors yet, but inside I’m getting the egg foam for my camera. You can also create a make-up case, traditional lunch box or arts & crafts box. There are over 25 million possibilities! These sell for $28 (more if you add accessories).

Vintage Jewelry

vintage jewelryMy 92-year-old grandma gave me the most fantastic piece of vintage jewelry a few years ago. Of course she bought it when it was new, but had the sense to hang on to it. She’s definitely one smart cookie. The bracelet has pink and lavendar super-flashy rhinestones. I love it! A few weeks ago I ran into Kristen, the owner of a new boutique on Phinney Ridge called Lil’Paisley The Vixen of Vintage Shop. She graduated in gemology and knows her vintage jewelry inside and out. Bring in your grandma’s hand-me-downs and have them fixed, appraised, or just admired by Kristen. Of course she’s got a bunch of vintage jewelry for you to buy, as well. The bracelet shown is similar to grandma’s, but not as cool. Mine is from an original fashionista! This sells for $150.

When it doubt, Dangle it

dangleThe other day when my fiancee and I picked up his wedding band at Turgeon Raine, we decided to stop in at Elephant & Castle for a quick drink. We sat in the bar at an extra-tall bistro table and I had a problem: What do I do with my purse? It’s a common issue. I don’t want it all the way on the (probably dirty) ground, I don’t want it on my lap and I don’t want it on the table. What’s a girl to do? Then I remember meeting someone last weekend who has come up with the solution. It’s called Dangle. It balances on the edge of the table with a hook at the bottom so you can get your designer bag off the floor! Now why didn’t I think of that!?!? Got a big bag? Don’t worry, it holds up to 85 pounds! (but only weigh a couple of ounces). They sell for $35 and come in brushed nickel, polished chrome and glitzy gold.

Get out your Bella Umbrella

Spring is the start of event season here in town, which means you’ve got to be looking your best. You can’t show up to Benaroya with that old tattered umbrella that’s been rolling under your seat for 8 years. Why not rent one from Bella Umbrella for just $10 to $20? (There are some other costs involved, so make sure to read the FAQ). I love this goth-glam parasol with black on black velvet polka dots!

Turgeon Raine rings

With just a little more than 2 months until I get married, it’s time to start looking for my fiance’s wedding band. He wants something unique, so we went to the highly-regarded jewelry shop Turgeon Raine. Wow. They have a great selection of men’s bands. We zoned in on a beautiful Christian Bauer ring similar to this one that I think we’ll get. Turgeon Raine is the only place in Seattle (possibly Washington state) that carries Christian Bauer, so there’s a good chance the guy next to him won’t be wearing the same ring. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, don’t worry, they can design and make you the perfect piece of jewelry.

Did I mention they have a wonderful selection of women’s jewelry, too? My fiance’ had to drag me out of there. I love sparkles.

Horseshoe “incredible hair tie”

I have curly hair that sometimes gets a little out of control. By noon I either want to cut it off or pull it back into a cute pony. So far I’ve been sane enough to choose the latter. Instead of using a regular hair rubber band I found “the incredible hair tie” at Horseshoe. Made from what I think might be bra strap material, they hug my hair without knotting it. When they stretch out, toss’em in the wash and bingo! they’re back to normal. These cute tie-dyed hair ties are just $1. But mention Seattle Chic when you’re making a purchase and they’ll throw one in for free!
