The hats and quirky jewelry in the window caught my attention – I needed a hat – so I wandered in. Yes, I got a hat. But the big discovery was a lucky accident, because I tend to avoid displays of perfume oils.

(I blend my own scents from essential oils, and scent bath products for my own use. My standards for fragrance are impossible. I hate bad, cheap, synthetic, headshoppy oils, and rancid “natural perfumes” infuriate me. One sniff can upset me for days, so I sniff carefully.)

This time I am SO glad I stepped a little closer… step by step, my sensitive nose told me THIS IS GOOD. This is VERY VERY GOOD. No, seriously, YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS NOW…

At the counter, distracted from purchasing my hat, I noticed a discreet display of tiny, precious bottles of perfume oil. INSTANTLY I knew they were true essential oils. And they are luscious! Designed by Sage Jewelry, each blend is named for a gemstone: onyx, garnet, amber, jade, pearl, turquoise, moonstone, and coral.

These scents layer seamlessly, but each has a distinct character, making them as vividly diverse as the stones they represent. I chose PEARL, a luminous and perfectly soft, rounded, clean yet sophisticated vanilla. There’s something so proper, feminine, respectable “Good Girl ” about this subtle blend. I would wear this to work, school, synagogue, interviews, meetings, and any situation requiring a good first impression. Unabashedly vanilla, sensuously understated, PEARL is sexy in a “silk lingerie under the business suit” way.

I will ABSOLUTELY be back for more of these gemstone fragrances by Sage! GARNET, rich amber and Moroccan red rose illuminated by fresh, grownup, real watermelon, is next… oh, wait, CORAL has mimosa, coconut, and orange blossom – a bit of Hawai’i in Seattle. I need this next. Or maybe Turquoise… wait, Jade.

So, this tiny little shop, FINI, managed to please me with its taste in fragrance, and its taste in hats. I got a HUGE classic black cotton Scala hat with the biggest brim yet.

The quirky jewelry may a little too weird for me, personally, but it’s tastefully done and I know tasteful people who’d love it.

And I’m thinking about one of the solid little cartoonish-bird pill boxes. And the leather items – bags, purses, wallets – are top quality, in colors I haven’t seen anywhere else in Seattle.

Ahahahahah… and then there are the sedate little cards inscribed “Stop Talking.” I need a pack of those. Dorothy Parker would have shopped here.

Above all, here’s the real deal: these gorgeous, stylish, witty, sensuous, functional, solid items are presented in a relaxed way. NO hard sell here, NO attitude… and NO sniffy, edgy, supercilious, suspicious glances at my chemo-brained dithering and unconventional bohemian style. The rare and delightful women running FINI make it great, lifting it well above the sea of Seattle’s most stylish shops. Their sincere, honest, friendly warmth puts Fini over the top.

GO THERE. But please do not buy all of the Sage oils until I get mine, O.K.? They’d better order more. I don’t want to go in there and not find my oils. Hmmm. Should I hit “Submit” on this? I want my oils. I want my bird pill box. DON’T BUY EVERYTHING THERE OK? BE NICE. Leave some for me. Share.
