LOVED this place. Always has really great sales people who are very interested in helping you find what you are looking for. Really love the new focus on shoes!!

Let me start by saying that I’m the owner of 2 small businesses in Ballard. I think it is important to support small businesses and I shop small independent stores as much as possible. I normally love this store, there is a lot to look at and an interesting and artistic kids book section.
BUT- today when I entered the the EMPTY store at 11:01 (one minute after opening) was I surprised at the AGGRESSIVE manor in which the OWNER of the store INSISTED I pick up and hold my child. Surprising because my son was standing at my side being very good. After I told him I felt he was over reacting to me not wanting to hold my child in my arms, he just kept getting angrier and angrier at me.
That man was the owner, I tried to continue my shopping but he was relentless in his demand to hold my boy in my arms following me around with his windex bottle and cleaning the glass counter tops (which by the way my son could not reach).
I will not be shopping at Burnt Sugar again. Most of the things he carries you can get in the surrounding boutiques, and I would rather shop in a an environment that is welcoming to well behaved children and respectful to people who are willing to spend their money in independent shops.

Hi Gretchen,
Sorry to hear about your experience. I do have to say though, that the man working there was not the owner. The owner is a woman.
Not sure what that guy’s problem was, but I have never had an issue like this, even brought in my dog once.
Take care!
